Men's Club
The purpose of the St Theresa Men's Club is to promote fellowship among all the men of the Parish. We do this through a variety of service- and social-oriented activities designed with the needs and wants of the Parish and local community in mind. The goals of the Men's Club are to:
- Promote the Catholic faith through example;
- Strengthen family values and encourage involvement in the Parish by hosting various activities;
- Help maintain and improve our Parish facilities;
- Contribute to the community at large.
The Men's Club hosts the annual Parish picnic around St. Theresa's birthday in October. We've arranged golf tournaments, Monday night football events, men's retreats, evenings of card games, breakfast meetings at Johnson's in Leesburg, Super Bowl pools, and other activities. Our latest activities have been pancake breakfasts where the proceeds go to Parish-sponsored activities, such as the youth Work Camp.
March 2006 -- The Men's Club is currently without a president. While several members are continuing to plan events like an April 30th pancake breakfast for the Work Camp team, we need someone to step forward to provide leadership. If you have been involved in Men's Clubs at other Parishes or just have a hankering for gathering a bunch of guys together to do good things, please contact Fr. Guest.

- Altar Servers
The altar servers at Saint Theresa are of boys from the age of nine and up, who have gone through special training classes that are held periodically. Altar servers are chosen from among the faithful who display a desire to serve in a more intimate way during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The primary duty of an altar server is to assist the priest as the mystery of the Upper Room and Calvary becomes present again at the Consecration. All actions of the server are woven from signs and symbols whose meaning is rooted in the works of creation and in human culture, specified by events in the Old Testament and fully revealed in the person and work of Jesus Christ. Therefore, an altar server does his assigned tasks in a prescribed form and manner. It is an extreme privilege to kneel so close to the altar as our loving Savior, Jesus Christ, becomes truly present - body, blood, soul and divinity, at the moment of Consecration. Therefore, a server has a solemn responsibility to do the assigned duties with attention, dignity and reverence.
- Cursillo
Cursillo (pronounced cur-SEE-yo) is a Spanish word meaning "short course"; it might be best described as a seminar. Cursillo, in this context, means "a short course in Christianity". It begins with a weekend, starting on a Thursday evening and continuing until Sunday evening. The weekend consists of daily celebration of the Mass, visits to the Blessed Sacrament, talks, meditations, singing, and good old-fashioned Christian fellowship. The goal of the weekend is to empower the attendees to become Christian leaders in their environments.
Notice that Cursillo begins with a weekend. At the end of the weekend, the attendees begin their Fourth Day. This Fourth Day is the rest of one's life. After encountering Jesus Christ in such a special way on the Cursillo weekend, the attendees return home with the challenge of remaining focused on Brother Jesus, and inviting Him to become a part of all facets of life. Two major tools are used to achieve this goal:
- GROUP REUNION A regular, preferably weekly, gathering of a group of 3 to 6 friends. These friends share their experiences and activities of the past week, and the ways in which they encountered Jesus Christ since they last met. Special emphasis is placed on Piety, Study, and Action.
- ULTREYA (ull-TRAY-uh) A weekly or monthly gathering together of all Group Reunions in an area to share prayers and songs and snacks. At each gathering, one member gives a witness talk about how our Lord is present in their life.
Other members of the local Catholic Cursillo Movement sponsor attendees on Cursillo weekends. If you feel that Cursillo might be for you, contact John & Martha Esser by E-mail or by phone: 703-729-1959. Learn More!
- The Legion of Mary (E-mail)
The main purpose of the Legion of Mary is to give glory to God through the sanctification of its members by serving Our Lord in union with Mary His Mother. Members meet once a week for prayer, planning and discussion in a family setting. Then they do two hours of definite work each week in pairs and under the guidance of their spiritual director. Members become instruments of the Holy Spirit through a balanced program of prayer and service. Works include door-to-door evangelization, parishioner visitation, visitation of the sick or aged, crowd contact, religious education, visiting the newly baptized, Pilgrim Virgin Statue rotations, and meeting the other spiritual needs of the parish community. The Legion is, in essence, an extension of the heart and hands of the pastor. Learn More!
